I just want to clarify that the eye patterns you are using for illustration is technically a "square root raised cosine" filtered signal. A root raised cosine filtered signal would have an eye opening that converges to a single point and the eye opening would have a diamond shape. While the difference between the two may be subtle to some who are not familiar with the concepts, the distinction between a root raised cosine filter vs. a full raised cosine filter is a very important one, especially to those who design receivers (and transmitters) for a living ;-)
This is a great site by the way. I refer non-comm type co-workers to your tutorials so that I don't get blank stares from them whenever I'm trying to describe simple concepts to them.
