I want to ask what are the differences between bit rate, data rate and symbol rate in general and specifically in WiMAX ? Thanks!

The bit rate and data rate can be used interchangeable. However, symbol rate is sometimes incorrectly used to refer bit rate. The relationship between bit rate, Rb and symbol rate, Rs is given below: Rb=Rslog2(M), where log2(M) is number of bits per symbol. For example, for 8-QPSK, M=8 and hence Rb=3Rs. You can refer any standard text book for more clarification.
