have been researching CDMA technology for a class that I am taking. I have come to a screeching halt because I do not understand how, and for what length, short and long codes are used. Could you please help? I have several questions concerning short and long codes in CDMA cellular communications systems. Question #1 What is the chip length (how many chips) of a long code in a mobile telephone? Question #2 What is a long code mask and how is it utilized? Question #3 Could I get an example of how a long code and a short code are used. Question #4 If a long code is originated in the mobile handset, and given that the code does not repeat for 41+ days, how does the base station and/or MSC know the code and how does it get decrypted? I am asking these questions based upon reading material from Communications books and internet sites, so if I am asking the wrong questions, please feel free to tell me.
