To whom it may concern
I am writing to get an opinion of the book “Phase-Look Basics” by William F. Egan. I am studying this book together with “Phaselock Techniques” by Floyd M. Gardner, “Phase-Locked Loops” by Roland E. Best and “Phase-Locked Loop Circuit Design” by Dan H. Wolaver. I read all 4 books together because I have question on every book and I have to verify using the others. I even found mistakes on Roland Best book on page 32 to 33 of the 5th addition where there are errors if you try to derive the H(s), natural frequency and the damping factor!!
My question is about chapter 6: Transient Respond. The author characterized 3 categories of transient responses to: step, ramp and parabolic input. But in the description, the author kept using phase and frequency in each categories of input. For example, on step response, the author talking phase step and frequency step together. On example 6.1 the question even using step response equation and graphs to calculate a frequency step. This is also true in the ramp input response. The author using ramp response equation for frequency ramp input.
I read the other books including you article “Unlocking the Phase Lock Loop-Part 2” three main categories are Phase Step, Frequency Step(phase ramp) and Frequency Ramp. The categories do not mix at all. I like the equation presentation of the William Egan’s book but it disturb me if I cannot resolve this. I tried to reach the author to ask this question directly but I have no luck location him. He is suppose to be teaching in Santa Clara University but there is no contact information in there site.
I hope you can look into this and give me an answer or if you know a way to contact William F. Egan.
Thank you
Alan
