basis functions and bandwidth

Dear charan,
i dont understand the relation between basis functions and bandwidth . in MPSK we have two basis functions and each symbol can be represented by the combination of them
please clear the relation between the two

There is no relationship between basis functions and bandwidth. The carrier are just that, a single frequency of zero bandwidth. The carrier frequency which is also the basis function frequency is chosen based on the medium to be used for transmission such as Ku-band or C-band or 800 MHz etc.

The bandwidth comes from having to send information over the carriers (the basis functions are the carriers). The information has bandwidth. You send this bandwidth over the carriers. Its like loading your suitcases (bandwidth) on the train (carrier).
