This is a great site. Keep it up, and I am looking forward to completion of the other tutorials, especially the one on turbo codes. I am a practicing Sw Eng and find your site to be a useful resource.
I am looking at the tutorial entitled "Coding and decoding with Convolutional Codes," more specifically the section on soft-decision decoding. On page 28, the table of probabilities is transformed to a table of metrics by taking the natural log and some manipulation. Would someone be so kind as to explain this manipulation? I tried all kinds of manipulation but just could not get the results shown.
