Is there anyone who has an idea of 'doing master thesis in UMTS or WLAN' is better ?

it depends on what type of thesis you are going to do. a more practical one or a more theoretical one?
hw implementation of an OFDM receiver for WLAN might be a good practice while study on channel resources allocation could be a theoretical choice. just to give you a little sense what can be done in these fields.
