Problem 1.
Construct a binary Huffman code for a source with 6 symbols with probabilities 0.3, 0.25, 0.20, 0.15, 0.06, 0.04 and determine the coding efficiency.
Problem 2.
Consider the discrete channel described by the diagram in the figure below.

There are three symbols. The first is unaffected by noise. The second and third symbols have the probability p of coming through unchanged and the probability q of being interchanged. The probability of the first symbol is P and the probabilities of the two other symbols are both Q.
a) Determine the mutual information of the channel. (2 points) b) Determine the capacity of the channel. (2 points)
Prb 3
ADSL is a technology to increase speed on a copper wire. We use different frequencies upstream and downstream. Downstream we use subchannels, each channel 4 kHz wide with a baud-rate of 4000 symbols/s. We have a maximum total bandwidht of 500 kHz and we want to tranfer a total bitrate of 2,048 Mbi/s (divided on these subchannels)
a) Decide proper modulation method for the subchannels. (2p) b) Describe a modulator for one subchannel. (2p)
